LCA for mining and extraction industry - project creation workshop

Sweden is the largest mining nation in Europe and now we would like together with you, in the mining and and extraction industry, manufacturing and recycling, unite our capabilities into a strategic project about LCA and how the method may be used for sustainability evaluation and in the long term to lower the environmental impact.

More and more often life cycle assessments, LCA, with the focus on mining industry is requested. We can see request origination from the EU CSRD, the Battery Regulation and the Critical Raw Materials Act.

The Swedish mining industry scores relatively high in environmental, social and financial sustainability. An LCA is a tool to support legal requirements, but is also used as a competitive advantage in marketing, for product and environmental labels, in policy and strategic work and to attract investments. An LCA is also a good tool to identify the environmental impact improvement potential. There are several methods and standards giving guidance for how an LCA should be performed, but the industry specific guidance for how to apply methods, databases, models and systems to suit the mining industry are still missing. We would like to change that and we think we do that best by working togehter across the industry.

To build a joint project application we invite you to a project creation workshop om how LCA is used within the mining industry today and how methods may be applied to suit and be harmonized to the industry sector´s needs. The workshop is carried out as part of a strategic feasibility study financed by the SIP Swedish Mining Innovation.

This invite is for all interested in LCA specifically for the mining and extraction sector and who together with us would like to work in, or follow from a reference of steering group, a future project on how LCA may be applied for reporting environmental, social and financial sustainability. Participants in the workshop don't have to participate in the future project.

The workshop will be held in Swedish and/or English depending or the participants preferences.

Sounds like fun? Register today, but no later than 22 Augusti. Welcome!
