Biorefineries will process tomorrow’s bio-based raw materials
New bio-based products are needed to achieve the global climate goals. Using biomass as a raw material, we can now produce anything from paint and toothpaste to electricity and fuel for fossil-free aircraft. Biorefineries allow us make use of the parts of the biomass that were previously not fully utilised in the forest and food industries, for example. The objective is to use bio-based resources in the most efficient manner possible, while also developing new green products to replace products that have previously been fossil-based.
RISE offers expertise in many areas such as biotechnology, thermo-chemical upgrade, process development and system analysis. In our test and demo environments, technologies and processes can be scaled up and tested under industrial conditions. We are now carrying out a major modernisation of our test beds as well as a number of new investments to improve the conditions for the commercialisation of new solutions for a circular bioeconomy.
