Cathodic protection in seawater
Cathodic protection is widely used as a corrosion protection method in the marine sector. The assessment of its performance is critical for structure reliability. Therefore, it needs to be well performed for safe operation of marine infrastructure. The participant will have the opportunity for hands-on activities performed in the laboratory and on field-simulated marine structures.
The purpose of the training is to:
- Improve participants' theoretical background on cathodic protection applied to structures in contact with seawater.
- Develop practical skills of the participants related to the assessment of cathodic protection systems in the marine sector.
- Discuss actual cathodic protection measurement tools for various marine structures.

Abdelkader Meroufel
RISE AB
Dr. Abdelkader Meroufel has 21 years of experience in corrosion field dealing with various sustainability challenges for active and passive metals, including in marine, CO2/H2S, soil, potable water and fossil fuel fired boiler environments. He has worked as a corrosion expert in the desalination industry for eight years. He continues to provide corrosion expertise within RISE for the infrastructure and energy sectors. Dr. Meroufel is a specialist in cathodic protection, certified according to ISO 15257 level 3 from CEFRACORR.
