Camera measurements

Picture-quality measurement of still and video cameras; a measurement of increasing importance in today’s society.

Camera type that can be measured.

Surveillance cameras are today becoming an increasingly common feature in our outdoor and indoor environments. Being able to quickly get a clear picture of what is happening is essential for a camera operator to be able to intervene correctly in case of an unexpected event. For example, one can observe:

• what is in a track area

• how severe a traffic accident really is

• what is burning and how serious the fire is.

In these cases, the image/video is the main means of information.

Common requirements for a surveillance camera:

  • The camera must be able to withstand strong sunlight and dark night without being dependent on external light sources (e.g., street lighting)
  • The camera must be able to handle high optical dynamics in a single image
  • The camera must be able to operate in the NIR range (700 - 1000 nm)
  • The camera must be able to take both still images and video under these conditions.

RISE's lab offers:

  • Measurements at long distances ~ 100 m with maximum optical zoom
  • Measurements in darkroom (IR) at medium distances (~ 50 m)
  • Measurements in labs with customized test boards and measurement setups.
