E-textiles

Electronic textiles, or e-textiles, is a multidisciplinary research area with applications such as soft and wearable sensors or energy harvesting. RISE can offer research and development ranging from materials selection and fibre development to integration and testing of electronics on textile carriers.

A few examples of our research projects on e-textiles:

  • Development, spinning and characterization of piezoelectric and/or electrically conducting textile fibres.
  • Integration of electronics into textiles, and development and testing of the resistance to wash and wear.
  • Development and testing of flexible pressure sensors for integration into prostheses.
  • Development of textile graphene-coated pressure sensors for integration into mattresses and wheelchair-cushioning.
  • Development of moisture based textile sensors.
  • Development and/or evaluation of preserved user comfort in textile products with integrated electronic sensors.
