Product safety analyses of food contact materials (FCM)

Product safety is an issue of very high concern for all kinds of materials and products. One of RISE core activity in this area is analyses of packaging and materials intended for food contact (FCM).

Our expertise in food contact materials and packaging

Food contact materials and packaging cover a wide range of materials e.g. plastic and papers, but also additives, adhesives and printing inks. The requirements differ depending on the composition of the product but also where the product is intended to be used across the world. RISE has long experience within FCM, and a well-equipped laboratory with various analytical techniques.

Examples of product safety analyzes performed are:

  • Overall and specific migration with foodsimulants
  • Set-off and migration of printing inks
  • Mineral oils (MOSH/MOAH)
  • Barrier properties
  • Screenings (10 ppb )
  • Material investigations

What we can offer

By using our advanced analysis equipment, we can produce proof that your material meets the requirements of FCM regulations (e.g. EC regulation No 10/2011, national recommendations like BfR XXXVI, national regulations like FDA or industry guidelines). We also offer product safety analyses during product development and material investigation.

Another part of RISE that deals with FCM regulations is our member-owned industry group Normpack, which help its members to understand and meet the legal requirements for food contact materials.

RISE is accredited according to ISO 17025.
