Fuel cells in data centres

One of the great challenges of our time is to manage the energy supply while limiting the climate impact. This also applies to data centers where the demands for a stable power supply are high.

By using fuel cells and batteries, we can create clean and stable energy systems both as a primary energy source, but also as a back-up system. Fuel cells have great potential to contribute to a better, more sustainable society.

RISE has expertise in fuel cell-powered data centers, mainly with SOFC technology where we have carried out large demonstration projects.

Among other things, we have demonstrated a system where biogas powers a data center via SOFC fuel cells and the excess heat is then connected to the district heating network.
