The National Laboratory for Force and Torque

At the National Laboratory for Force and Torque, we provide Sweden's most comprehensive and precise resources for measurements and calibrations in force (newton, N) and torque (newton meter, N·m). We continuously work to develop and improve measurement methods, equipment, and standards to maintain traceability and enhance Swedish competitiveness. We comply with the requirements of ISO 17025, ensuring the quality of our measurements. We collaborate with Swedish industry, universities, and colleges, as well as national metrology institutes in other countries.

An important area of research is in dynamic measurements, where the goal is to establish traceability for rapid changes in force and torque.

What do we do?

• Maintain traceability in force and torque.
• Provide quality-assured measurements and calibrations. We can calibrate forces from 0.5 N to 6 000 kN and torques from 0.1 N·m to 5 000 N·m.
• Offer consultation and metrology expertise to industry and society.
• Train laboratory personnel in force and torque metrology, including measurement equipment, methods, principles, and measurement uncertainty.
• Research and development, both nationally and within international collaboration projects.
• Perform international comparison measurements to ensure the highest measurement quality. Our measurement capabilities (CMCs) are published in the Key Comparison Database (KCDB) and are internationally recognized under the CIPM MRA.
• Participate in standardization work.
