Contact CamillaMicroorganisms are everywhere around us and even in us. Many of these are completely harmless or even beneficial to us, while others can cause infections that in some cases can have devastating consequences as the Covid-19 pandemic has shown. Healthcare-associated infections and foodborne illness are other serious examples of unwanted spread of infection.
The cure for many serious infections is antibiotics, but with the increasingly widespread antibiotic resistance, the role of antibiotics is threatened. We must all contribute to protecting antibiotics, and it is urgent. Already, over 1.2 million people worldwide die each year due to antibiotic resistance.
We at RISE want to contribute to developing innovations that prevent the emergence of infections, counteract the spread of infection, treat infections, improve diagnostics and monitoring, and contribute to wise antibiotic use. We do this together with companies, academia and the public sector in both assignments and collaborative projects.
