Contact CarinaThis project was about utilization of non-used resources and residues to create new business lines and products at agro-industries. In the Swedish part straw-based ethanol production will was improved by improved logistics and bio-oil production from the lignin. Three demonstrations were conducted, one of them are at Lantmännen Agroethanol.
Aim and goal
The project aim was to utilize and take advantage of existing capacities, resources and residues in agro-industries to produce new products for the market
Challenge
Straw is an alternative to grain-based ethanol production but the profitability needs to be improved. Agro-industries often have resources and residues that is underutilized and could create new business opportunities.
Solution
The challenge of the project was to improve the value chain of straw by improving the supply system and by producing bio-oil from the lignin left after ethanol production.
Effect
To be able to meet the high demand for biomass in the transition to a bioeconomy, and at the same time increase the proportion of biocomponents produced by Swedish raw materials, a higher use of cereal straw is needed. Cereal straw is one of the agricultural residue with largest potential Agricultural.
