Contact MartinEU-RAIL is a large European collaboration for a better railway system. Within sub-project "FP1 Motional", RISE contributes with research into usability aspects within timetable optimization, planning of marshalling yards and traffic controllers handling of driver advisory systems.
The project "Europe's Rail Flagship Project 1 - MOBILITY MANAGEMENT MULTIMODAL ENVIRONMENT AND DIGITAL ENABLERS" - Motional - is one of the projects within the Joint Undertaking Europe's Rail. The Swedish Transport Administration is the main Swedish party in EU-RAIL, RISE and other Swedish research actors participate as "Affiliated entities" to the Swedish Transport Administration.
The main focus of Motional is various aspects of traffic management. RISE has the following main commitments:
Coordinated planning of marshalling yards. RISE continues the work on creating the conditions for better coordinated planning between the actors at a marshalling yard with the YCS (Yard Collaboration System) demonstrator. Within Motional, YCS is connected to the TMS-system Digital graph for real-time updating of data and the functionality for planning is further developed to better support the train traffic controller.
Optimization of timetables. Starting from the RISE prototype system for timetable optimization (M2), RISE looks at usability aspects - how timetable planners can best interact with this type of decision support.
International capacity planning, TTR. RISE supports the project with TTR expertise to ensure that developed concepts fit into TTR's capacity planning processes.
The traffic management's handling of train driver support. Connected driver advisory systems (C-DAS) have a great potential for more efficient train operation and traffic control, and RISE is developing concepts to support train traffic controllers in the handling of C-DAS.
