To achieve this, the project aims to improve collaboration between key bioeconomy stakeholders, resulting in sustainable business models for bio-based innovations in rural areas.
The development of the bioeconomy has great potential to drive growth in the world in a more sustainable way. Nevertheless, many European regions have not yet unleashed the full potential of the bioeconomy, despite significant investment in research, innovation, and business support.
Therefore, MainstreamBIO aims to bring small-scale bio-based solutions into mainstream practice across rural Europe, enabling a wider range of rural actors to engage in and accelerate the transition to a bioeconomy.
To implement this, 7 multi-actor innovation platforms (MIPs) will be set up in different countries/regions around Europe. Each MainstreamBIO MIP will consist of actors in various agro-food and bio-based domains who are strategically involved in the project's key activities.
Together with them, the project supports 35 multi-actor partnerships to overcome barriers and bring bio-based innovations to market with practical innovation support, accelerating the development of bio-based products and services.
In parallel, the project develops and uses a digital toolbox to better match bio-based technology, social innovations and good practices for nutrient recycling with available biomass and market trends, as well as to increase understanding of the bioeconomy with a set of educational resources based on existing research results and tools.
