MARS - Modelling and analysis of risks in systems of systems

MARS studies the modelling and analysis of risks in complex, interconnected systems. Case studies are made in the areas of forest fires, autonomous vehicles, and pandemics.

The advent of automatization and digitalization interconnects more and more of modern society's systems. This is done to improve coordination and efficiency, but also creates complex socio-technical systems (SoS) where the constituent systems are independent, with their own goals and priorities. Since the systems are connected, disturbances will propagate and quickly lead to societal risks.

The MARS project studies how to model and analyze such risks in systems of systems. Case studies on forest fires, autonomous vehicles, and pandemics will be done. The project is coordinated by Mälardalen University, where a PhD student is funded.
