RMP-FoU Traceable continuous forces

The development of a traceability chain for continuous force measurements at the Swedish National Metrology Institute will improve the reliability of force measurements in Swedish industry and thereby strengthen Swedish competitiveness in, for example, material testing area.

Aim and goal

This project aims to improve the technical competence in the force metrology area at the Swedish National Metrology Institute (RMP) by providing the traceability for continuous force measurements in testing and calibration. The overall goal of the project is to increase the scope of force measurement services realized in RMP while taking into account the industrial operating conditions and real-life applications.

Planned approach

Investigation the differences between static and continuous force measurements using existing equipment and some new force transducers, then a complex analysis of measurement data, development of compensation techniques for influencing factors, creation of a new calibration method and finally the traceability establishment and dissemination of project's results, by appyling for a paper in a peer review journal.

Expected effects

Improvement of the accuracy and reliability of force measurements in various applications in Sweden and thereby strengthen the Swedish competitiveness. Creating an opportunity for RMP to play a leading role as the provider of technical knowledge and expertise as well as measurement techniques and standards in continuous force testing and calibration.
