Sustainable Interior UDI step 3

The Sustainable Interior project is a UDI project step 3, with the goal of developing a market-ready certification for sustainable interiors.

Sustainable interior is a research project that drives the work on developing an environmental label for premises. The work has support from Vinnova in stages 1, 2 and 3 through the Challenge-driven innovation programme. Over 30 partners have participated in Sustainable Interior, which is now ready to be launched and rigorously tested on the market.

The actor constellation represents the entire value chain and reflects the breadth and competence required to manage the complexity of societal challenges. Sustainable interior wants to increase awareness and reduce the environmental impact connected to premises by developing a certification for interiors and a tool that supports the process. Within Sustainable interior, we work to develop questions and criteria for how the concept of sustainability should actually be applied. There are resource-conscious choices to be made when it comes to the premises' qualities, design and operation. And there are questions to ask about the life cycle of newly manufactured products versus recycled products. Sustainable interior wants to make it easier for decision makers and project teams to make these environmentally conscious choices.

A certification and a digital tool

Sustainable interior will develop an environmental certification for premises and a digital tool – Hint, which is used to measure the environmental impact within a business. The tool gives an indication of how sustainable your premises, interior or project plan is. Did you know, for example, that the biggest environmental impact of furniture occurs in the manufacturing stage? It is possible to work consciously and more circularly for reduced emissions and environmental impact. But how best to do that can sometimes be a challenge. Hi helps you measure your impact and gives suggestions on how you work smartly and responsibly towards a sustainable discourse. Hint helps you work according to individually adapted goals and needs. With the new global climate goals, however, there is reason to review your business. Soon you will need an aid like Hi to get ready for the coming transition.

The project is coordinated by Indicum interior architects. Since step 2, RISE has been responsible for research to produce the requirements and criteria that must apply to the certification. In step 3, we continue the work with the requirements and criteria, while also being responsible for the development of processes, documentation and methods for the certification itself. RISE also participates as one of seven pilots, which will test the certification in step 3.

Other partners in step 3 are Voidmark, Agero, JLL, Västra Götaland region, Tenant & Partner, Tengbom, RP, Rekomo, Input Interiör, Flokk, Ogeborg, Swedish interior architecture, Littri, Palats, The Works, Strategic architecture, MER, Coor, Agima , Ludvig Svensson, Atrium Ljungberg, Region Halland and Vink.
