The Inclusive, Sustainable and Connected Society

The need of combining digitalization and sustainability is featured in many different forums and strategies. In the project The Inclusive, Sustainable and Connected Society, this was a key theme.

The project was a collaboration between Södertälje municipality, Telge Återvinning, RISE IVF and Umeå University, and aimed to develop IoT based concepts that will support Södertälje municipality to make use of machine generated data as a strategic resource for both internal and external efficiency, and as a basis for democratization. Additionally, the aim was to develop databased methods for increased efficiency of utilizing resources and costs in the municipality’s ambitions regarding resource and waste management, as a way of reaching the sustainability goals of Södertälje municipality.

The project resulted in increased insights into the environmental impact of various digital solutions (e.g. regarding connected trash cans), dissemination of knowledge within the municipality regarding these issues, and collaboration with citizens on the theme of inclusive, sustainable and connected societies, i.a. via Södertälje municipality's hackathon.
