A certification of wastewater treatment plants according to Revaq (SPCR 167) means that the operator undertakes to perform a systematic upstream work, to comply with specified requirements regarding sludge quality, to strive for continuous improvement and to report how each individual sludge lot is managed and where it is then spread on arable land. This means, among other things, that the quality of the incoming wastewater to the plant is gradually improved and that there is documentation and traceability with respect to the sludge that is spread.
Prior to certification, the operator must show that certain basic elements in upstream work and quality assurance already have been initiated. A certification audit examines that the operator complies with requirements of the certification system. As measures have been taken to manage deviations, a certificate can be issued. In order to keep the certificate, continuous work is then required based on the requirements in the regulations. Through an annual audit, RISE reviews that the requirements are complied with.
After the certification audit has been carried out and any deviations have been rectified, a certificate is issued and an agreement is made with RISE regarding further control. From then on, the operator may use the certification label. Every following year, RISE then conducts an external audit that results in a report.
