Applied AI
How do we work on applied AI? The Centre for Applied AI conducts applied AI research and transition management for a modern industry and an innovative society.
Our Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) research group strives to not only embrace the latest technologies, but also to actively contribute to shaping a sustainable future and provide clear value and benefits to industry and society in Sweden and the EU.
Through strategic AI partnerships, visionary strategies and technical analyses, we push the boundaries of innovation. We focus on applied AI research and transformation management to modernise and optimise processes, work methods and business models.
The goal is to promote knowledge transfer and enable education to ensure that the benefits of AI reach individuals and society.
We mainly work in the following areas of applied AI:
- Strategic AI partnership - offers resources such as experts, cutting-edge expertise, and consultants where RISE builds knowledge proactively with our partners' roadmaps and in light of all offers.
- AI Visions, Strategies & Roadmaps - in relation to, for example, emerging technologies, new regulations, new ways of working, disruptive business models, standards and new ecosystems
- AI Technology analyses as well as testing, validation and certification - for example: Performance, scalability, security, quality, compatibility, lock-in effects, sustainability aspects, usability etc.
- Applied AI research - concept development, experimentation, hypothesis testing, prototyping, simulations, modeling software, algorithms and interfaces
- AI Transition management - Value-creating modernization, optimization, transformation of processes, working methods, flows, products, technologies, services and business models using applied AI
- AI Knowledge transfer – education, reskilling, upskilling and lifelong learning

AI optimises the production line in car manufacturing
At the end of the production line in the Volvo Cars factory is a station that quality assures and calibrates the car's radar and camera systems. This is a complex, expensive and relatively time-consuming procedure. This project has looked at how this process can be optimised using data analytics and AI.
