Contact BettinaReplacing fossil-based plastic materials is one of the great sustainability challenges we face today. Sharing the vision that materials should be fossil free, fully recyclable, and designed for a circular economy, Apple and RISE have developed a new type of low-density material based on the same type of wood pulp that is used for making paper products.
The result is a material that could replace polymeric foams, mineral fiber products, and is fully compatible with the recycling systems for paper-based packaging.
Apple and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden are committed to contributing solutions to address the ongoing plastic pollution crisis through a joint undertaking and creation of an innovative, low-density, resilient, cellulose foam, based on responsibly sourced wood pulp that can be sustainably produced and recycled in the paper packaging recycling stream.
Apple and RISE believe that responsibly sourced, low-density, pulp-based
renewable materials can be an important part of the solution. To accelerate progress and shorten time to market, we are inviting partners to build on our work and develop the material toward different applications.
