Green Node in Green Corridor
System demonstrator: port as green node in green corridor aims to enable calculation and simulation of Co2 emissions from port operations and transport to and from a port. Making Co2 emissions transparent, allows the transport buyer and cargo owner to make informed decisions about sustainable transports.
The project focus on Kvarken Ports Umeå and gather a large amount of industri actors, e.g cargo owners, transport operators and service actors and co create a solution to identify and simulate Co2 emissions related to port operations and transports to and from Kvarken Ports Umeå.
The project has created conditions for establishing a system demonstrator for an environmentally friendly transport hub in Port of Umeå and to support the Umeå-Vasas Green Corridor. The project has identified eligibility requirements of the port as a green node and how CO2 emissions can be made transparent for those who act in, and visit, Kvarken port Umeå.
The project has successfully positioned Kvarken Ports as an innovative partner. Including port operations as a basis in how CO2 emissions are calculated accelerates the green transition away from fossil fuels. Efforts made in the implementation project are also intended to inspire other Swedish ports, and also other types of transport nodes, in their efforts to make their climate footprint transparent to stakeholders and society
By taking into account current practices for calculating CO2 emissions, a new model has been proposed to capture ports´ CO2 emissions as a basis for a tool that allows actors involved in transports to make informed decision enabling more sustainable transport alternatives.
