Contact KarinTo develop high-temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cells (HT-PEMFC), the project focuses on finding a new membrane material. The basis for the material is to develop ionic liquids which can then be incorporated into polymer films and provide a fuel cell with high performance and long lifespan.
A prompt transition to fossil-free and zero-emission technologies in the transport sector is an urgent need. One of the promising technologies is the high-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (HT-PEMFC), which can be fueled with hydrogen of low purity produced from alcohols (methanol or ethanol). The
technology is underdeveloped, especially in Sweden, although the installation of the alcohol refueling infrastructure is considerably cheaper than that of pure hydrogen.
The project aims to raise the interest in HT-PEMFC as an auxiliary or a main electricity generator in vehicles and at development of an alternative and sustainable
polymer-based electrolyte material with similar or better operational properties than the existing one. The polymer electrolyte is the heart of the HT-PEMFC that enables the chemical-to-electrical energy conversion, we will focus on delivering a material of high performance, high durability and low environmental impact.
