Increased recycling of plastics from the construction sector

Increased recycling of plastics from the construction sector

How do you collect plastic waste from construction sites so the material can be recycled and become new useful products or something else? Take part in our information and training packages and start collecting plastic waste today. This saves both carbon dioxide emissions and costs.

Since RISE began investigating plastic among construction and demolition waste almost ten years ago, a lot has happened. When we asked about plastics waste in the waste bins, the companies had "not a lot of plastic waste". Since 2020, there is a law in Sweden, that states that plastic waste from construction sites must be collected and transported separately.

Despite this, far too little of the plastic that is collected is recycled. Sorting needs to improve and knowledge needs to increase in order for the flow to be circular. Therefore, together with Chalmers Industriteknik  and Vestia, we have produced educational material and a film on how sorting and recycling of plastics works.

Today, there are functioning circular recycling chains for several plastic building products: e.g. film for pallets, cellular plastic insulation, pipes and floor spills
