Contact NerminaOffshore wind power offers great potential for renewable electricity generation in Sweden. However, port capacity to meet the needs of the offshore wind power industry is far from sufficient. The project will help Swedish ports to evaluate their business potential for the wind power industry, through an innovative methodology in a sustainable way.
Challenges facing Swedish ports include uncertain plans for offshore wind power projects, unclear profitability for the port, development risks and competition with the business activities already carried out in the port.
The aim of the project is to develop an innovative methodology and identify how a business model can be set up based on the new needs of the wind power industry as a customer segment. Potential policy and financial instruments will also be evaluated and proposed.
The project will help to establish cooperation between ports, shipping companies and the wind energy industry, focusing on knowledge exchange and risk sharing based on potential business opportunities.
Project partner ports are Trelleborg port, Gothenburg port, Gävle port, Smålandshamnar, Ports of Stockholm, Söderhamns stuveri & Hamn, Wallhamn, Ystad port, Kålvik port, Falkenberg terminal & port.
Wind industry participants include Vattenfall, Zephyr, Eolus Vind, RWE, OX2, Freja Offshore, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and Northern Offshore Services, with more to come. Sveriges Hamnar (Transportföretagen) and Nordic partners (Norwegian Offshore Wind and Energy Cluster Denmark) are part of a reference group to support the project with expertise and industry networks.
This project is run by RISE in collaboration with Gothenburg university.
