To test bursting strength of materials that are not suitable for tensile testing. The method is; SS-EN ISO 13938-2. Textiles – Bursting properties of fabrics – Part 2: Pneumatic method for determining of bursting strength and bursting distension.
In the burst strength tester, the sample is clamped on top of a membrane so that it remains completely still. Using compressed air, the membrane is lifted upwards until the sample breaks or bursts. The force is then recorded in kPa and the elongation is measured in %.
This is a good alternative to regular tensile testing if the sample is stretchable, very fragile, or very strong. Knits, warp knits, non-wovens, both coated and uncoated, stretch fabrics, tights, etc., are materials that can advantageously be measured using this method. We have 3 different sizes of measuring heads to adapt to different types of materials. However, values cannot be compared between the different heads. Testing can be performed either in a conditioned state or in a wet state.
The method is accredited according to ISO 17025.
