The Regional Metrology Organization, EURAMET

Through Knowledge Transfer and cooperation among our members EURAMET facilitates the development of the national metrology infrastructures.

EURAMET is the Regional Metrology Organisation (RMO) of Europe. We coordinate the cooperation of National Metrology Institutes (NMI) in Europe in fields such as research in metrology, traceability of measurements to the SI units, international recognition of national measurement standards and related Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMC).

In addition to initiating and coordinating comparative measurements, the regional organizations are also responsible for third-party reviews of the CMCs as described above. For Europe, the metrology organization is EURAMET, www.euramet.org and the work of comparative measurements and reviews is carried out in one of the 12 technical committees that make up the technical framework of EURAMET. Swedish national metrology actively participates in all 12 technical committees.

For several years, EURAMET has also worked to launch research collaborations in European metrology, initially within the framework of each country's own funding but later within the framework of an ERA NET + program. Since 2009, EURAMET has been administering an Article 185 program, EMRP (European Metrology Research Program) with EU funding. EMRP has been followed since 2014 by another European research program, EMPIR (European Metrology Program for Innovation and Research).
