AstaZero completes world's first successful testing for 3GPP-based Mission Critical Services, meeting the newly announced Global Certification Forum certification criteria

17 June 2024, 06:47

AstaZero, a subsidiary of RISE, Research Institutes of Sweden, announced today that it has successfully performed the world's first 3GPP-based communication systems Mission Critical Services (MCS) conformance certification tests. The new GCF test criteria include fulfillment of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard for mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT) services. The tests comply with the new criteria set by the Global Certification Forum (GCF) and The Critical Communication Association (TCCA). This achievement marks a significant milestone in the development of secure and reliable communication technologies for mission-critical operations.

The mission critical communication systems used by police forces, ambulance services, fire brigades and other society organizations require uninterrupted and secure communication. The world first certification test fulfilling the new GCF and TCCA criteria for 3GPP-based MCS conformance certification tests were conducted at RISE’s ISO 17025 accredited Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) chambers in Borås, Sweden. The new criteria for conformance test and certification ensure that 3GPP-based MCS critical communication systems are interoperable, reliable and secure.

Paul Halle Zahl Pedersen, Senior Vice President at RISE, commented on the achievement: "This world first certification test is a proof point of our commitment to advancing the deployment of technology standards. We are honored to contribute in setting new benchmarks for standards in the Mission Critical Services domains and by our testing and verification competence and capabilities contribute to a safer society.”

3GPP-based MCS conformance certification, as announced June 11th by Global Certification Forum (GCF), opens the door for wider adoption of standardized mission-critical communication services globally. It paves the way for enhanced communication systems interoperability and enables smoother cooperation between organizations during critical situations. Conformance certification facilitates a competitive market, where components from different vendors can interoperate, lowering entry barriers and increasing cost competitiveness and innovation.
