Organisations can now certify their innovation management systems according to ISO standard

The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has launched ISO 56001, the world’s first certifiable standard for Innovation Management Systems. This new standard sets out the requirements for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving an innovation management system within any organisation.

With ISO 56001, organisations can now certify their innovation management systems in a manner similar to quality and environmental management certifications. As a certifying body in Sweden, RISE is ready to assist organisations interested in achieving certification.
The development of the ISO standards began in 2013, involving over 60 countries, with Sweden playing a significant role. The national committee was chaired by Magnus Karlsson from RISE, who contributed significantly to the standard’s development.

ISO 56001 provides an internationally recognised framework that adopts a systems perspective on innovation work. It can be integrated with other management systems, such as quality (ISO 9001) and environmental management (ISO 14001), creating synergies and enhancing overall management practices.
In addition to RISE, several other Swedish organisations have been involved in the development of ISO 56001, including Vinnova, Tillväxtverket, SKR, Karolinska University Hospital, Sweco Sweden, curlabs, Novelty Quest, and SISP - Swedish Incubators & Science Parks.
