On Friday 15 September, SEEL’s state-of-the-art testbed for electromobility was declared open in Nykvarn. It is here that components and systems for electrified transport solutions will be tested. The focus is primarily on heavy duty vehicles, but also on the maritime sector and aviation.
“The Swedish transport sector is leading the way in a large number of areas, and SEEL boosts efforts to achieve increased sustainability and enhanced competitiveness. The testing and research that will be conducted here at SEEL is extremely important for the transition to an electrified transport system,” says Andreas Carlson, Minister for Infrastructure and Housing.
The Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory (SEEL), with its three large testbeds, creates a unique, neutral platform for cross-border collaboration and development. This is where academia and industry come together to make real progress towards achieving Europe's climate goals. SEEL is owned by RISE and Chalmers University of Technology, and has four active partners in Volvo Group, Volvo Cars, Scania and CEVT.
“SEEL is an open and neutral platform. This is where industry and research meet to make real progress together towards an electrified transport system. We’re convinced that it is through collaboration that we pool resources and drive world-class research and development,” says Pia Sandvik, CEO of RISE.
“We need powerful physical test environments where real technologies can be evaluated, where academic research can be fully utilised for implementable technical solutions in the best interests of society. Through collaboration with a number of actors, we have created such environments in SEEL, a necessity for the transition of the transport sector,” says Anders Palmqvist, Vice President Research at Chalmers University of Technology.
At SEEL’s testbed in Nykvarn, the focus is on research and testing in the field of battery technology, and dynamic testing of electric powertrains for heavy duty vehicles.
“SEEL consists of three state-of-the-art testbeds in Gothenburg, Nykvarn and Borås. SEEL was recently declared open in Gothenburg, and now it’s time to open the doors in Nykvarn, where we can test batteries, electric axles and electric motors. In Nykvarn, SEEL has its most powerful equipment for testing electric axles for use in areas of application such as trucks, buses or construction machinery,” says Henrik Svenningstorp, CEO of SEEL.
