Alfred Söderberg, Ph.D. in transportation planning, is involved in a wide range of mobility projects, often with a focus on facilitating behavioral change to promote pedestrian, bicycle, and public transportation usage. In his dissertation titled "Soft measures to shift modality," he employed social psychological behavior theories and behavior modeling to assess the effects of travel applications, marketing initiatives, and trial periods involving electric bicycles. Alfred has also been engaged in the early stages of transportation planning, such as conducting public transportation, mobility, and parking investigations. He has served as a course leader in Mobility Management/Transport Demand Management and has offered guidance to start-ups implementing nudging in the transportation system.
Alfred's research on behavioral change encompasses both micro and macro perspectives. Examples of projects from a micro perspective include "Smart platform information," which tested various types of information systems to streamline the boarding and disembarking processes for train passengers. An example of a macro perspective project is the "Scrappage Premium," which aimed to explore whether a Swedish scrappage premium for the purchase of electric bicycles could serve as an effective policy tool to accelerate the phase-out of older personal vehicles in favor of more sustainable and health-conscious mobility alternatives.
