I am senior scientist with a PhD in chemistry from Umeå University. I am experienced in communicating research ideas and results to various audience, as well as to lead and work in projects with academic partners, small and medium sized enterprises and large corporations. The focus of my work at RISE Processum is biorefinery development and upscaling with a particular focus on forest based residual streams. Bark and lignin comprise two examples of such residual streams. We extract betulin, suberin and tannin from bark. These substances may then be further utilized in applications such as adhesive, barriers and/or in construction materials. In the project Green bioraff solutions hydrolysis lignin was upgraded to active coal. Within the framework of Climate Leading Process Industry (https://klimatledande.johannebergsciencepark.com/), we have studied upgrading of hydrolysis lignin via hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL). As technical and scientific leader for the consortia Flexible Biorefinery within RISE research program, I am responsible for the scientific content and coordinate the work conducted by RISE-colleagues all over Sweden. The overall goal there is to study processes for valorization of lignocellulosic residual streams towards chemicals, oils and fuels.
