DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT AND POLICY
Emmie's areas of interest involve exploring and contributing to an understanding of how regulatory frameworks can function effectively alongside rapid technological advancements while fostering innovation and public benefit. Her focus lies in the delicate balance between legal rigidity and flexibility, as well as in developing tools and ideas for the interaction between law and digital development, such as the concept of "code is law." Emmie is particularly interested in topics such as AI, data protection, digital ethics, human rights, democracy, urban planning, and mobility. At RISE, she participates in interdisciplinary research projects, where fields like mobility, data sharing, and geofencing are included as part of the broader context of digital transformation.
BACKGROUND
With a background in law and policy development, Emmie has experience in both the public and private sectors. She has worked in legal analysis and advisory roles, including as an AI and data protection lawyer at a legal tech company, as corporate counsel, and at a law firm. She also has experience in political advisory roles within the European Parliament and at the municipal level.
