Johan is a material and surface chemist working with accelerated corrosion testing. There is a battery of advanced test equipment available at the department for durability testing/accelerated tests (exposure of light, temperature, humidity, salt, acid, gas etc.) of most available materials and surface treatments. Johan did a PhD in Australia within the area of new environmentally friendly antifouling coatings and considers durability (antifouling and corrosion) in the marine environment as extremely challenging and exciting subject. Research areas of interest to Johan are new/improved materials and surface treatments, functional/smart coatings, and advance surface characterisation.
