Niclas Ericsson is an Industrial Doctoral Student working at RISE in Västerås since February 2016. He has been working as a software engineer and researcher with Industrial Distributed Control Systems for more than 15 years at ABB Corporate Research and Bombardier Transportation. His main research interest is related to communication assessment and how to improve the efficiency when developing communication software for time critical systems.
Recent and active research projects, includes research and innovation as well as, soft- and hardware method and technology development based on advances in internet-of-things, edge and cloud technology. In this context is cybersecurity a critical part, where safety critical systems need to communicate with cloud servers on the Internet. Requirements on, cybersecurity, safety, availability, reliability, and product longevity are extremely challenging, especially since stopping industrial processes for maintenance (e.g., security patches) is often very costly. These combinations and challenges are both important and interesting to study and develop and are currently a focus area for Niclas.
