Efficient and reliable battery systems are the key to electrification and the transition to fossil-free vehicles. Joining and gluing play a central role in battery production and battery system assembly. In addition, the selection and design of the correct jointing method is crucial for later disassembly for reuse and recycling of batteries.
We are engaged in pre-treatment, bonding, mechanical joining and hybrid joining methods (combination of different joining methods), which can be used in cell-to-cell joining, module-to-pack joining, battery box structural joining and electrical contacting. With us you will find an industrial research environment for the development of advanced jointing methods as well as dry pretreatment, geometry assurance, automation and digitization.

Pressing of components in composite and metallic materials is a process that is well suited for high-volume manufacturing of components such as battery housings, modules and packs. Therefore, RISE has modern energy-efficient presses for testing and developing different types of materials into pressable components. All necessary support functions (design, construction, process simulation, quality control and testing) that support this manufacturing technology are available within RISE.

Today's battery systems are connected by e.g. gluing, mechanical joining and welding. In order to enable service, repair and a circular flow of the batteries, disassembly of joints and subsequent reassembly needs to take place in a durable, safe and reliable way and needs to ensure the battery's function for the next step in the value chain.
RISE is involved in the dismantling of joints and performs research linked to e.g. demountable adhesive joints and disassembly and reassembly of screw connections. RISE can develop safe and industrial solutions where jointing, disassembly and reassembly go hand in hand.
