Polymers In Corrosive and Harsh Environments

It is not only metals that rust but also plastics or polymers can corrode in different environments. This is exactly what polymer corrosion is all about.
We are internationally leading experts in the field and have over 30 years of experience in close work with the industry.

Together with the companies we have formed several network/member programs where the companies themselves can be in control of the direction of our research. Within these platforms, the corrosion properties of polymers, plastics for pickling applications and materials in contact with drinking water are accommodated.

We are flexible and customer-oriented and work with all kinds of plastic materials, such as fluoroplastics, polyolefins and glass fiber reinforced plastics, in a variety of environments.

Our experience in areas where polymers are exposed to process media such as acids, chlorine and other chemicals has given us a lot of knowledge about how these materials behave in corrosive environments. We look at everything from thermal ageing, weather resistance and mechanical influence to accelerated testing in test beds and field inspections.

Through responsive consultation and confidentiality, we develop the knowledge you need to be able to make life expectancy assessments, risk assessments, material choices and plan for continued safe operation.

Here are some examples of areas we work in:

  • Mechanical and chemical properties and how these change over time
  • Infrastructure, water and wastewater
  • Help with material choice, substitution, alternative products made of fluoroplastics in harsh environment (PTFE, PVDF, Viton, PFAS)
  • Flue gas plants
  • Field inspections
  • Failure analysis
  • Litterature studies
  • Courses in polymeric materials
