Can improved packaging systems contribute to a circular economy?

Can a packaging both meet requirements to reduce the climate footprint and contribute to the circular economy? Circularity is important, but it is not a given that something that is circular is also sustainable. It can be perceived as a dilemma when the demands of the future feel unattainable and incompatible.

The dilemma may be to reduce food waste but at the same time use less packaging material, or to use recyclable packaging but at the same time maintain product protection. It can also be about choosing between recycled and bio-based material for packaging or products.
RISE has a wide competence in packaging and a holistic view that combines knowledge from different areas. We have our competencies gathered in one and the same organization, which leads to a short starting distance from problem formulation to action plan.

RISE can help you at different levels

We have an established process where we support you in securing the packaging system for the future. Experts at RISE start from your current situation and ambitions. Together with you, we identify opportunities, obstacles and risks, and categorize them based on what can be modified. In workshop-format, we identify dilemmas and driving forces and prioritize among them, in order to jointly produce a concrete action plan for the desired situation and the next step.

The workshop can result in the company needing:

  • Help with developing technical solutions
  • Support to evaluate their packaging
  • Support to develop a new packaging strategy or new circular business models

Webinar - The Future of Food Packaging – Navigating New Demands

RISE has extensive expertise in both food and packaging, and during this webinar we will go through the research front in these important topics:

  • Transitioning from plastic to paper-based packaging
  • Key regulations, including environment (PPWR) and food contact materials (FCM)
  • Detection of off-odours and aroma compounds in food packaging
  • Behaviour tracing with eye-tracking technology at the point of purchase
  • Hygiene and microbiology considerations
