Contact HåkanThe purpose of the project is to investigate the conditions under which self-driving vehicles can offer more attractive public transport in the countryside and thus contribute to a transition to a sustainable transport system.
The ambition is to pave the way for a sustainable transport system so that all of Sweden has reasonable access to public transport.
The outcome will detail under what circumstances autonomous vehicles can be used for public transport in a rural setting, in order to facilitate a sustainable transport option for those living and working outside of the larger cities and towns. The project results can therefore be used in future procurement processes.
The municipalities of Skellefteå, Eskilstuna, Gotland and Lund will together with the Swedish Transport Administration, Ramboll and RISE investigate the criteria for using autonomous vehicles in public transportation from a rural perspective. From the concrete details given by the context of each municipality a general pattern will be deducted through workshops. The outcome will be complemented with interviews to validate and further generalise the outcome.
