Contact MarinaIn urban environments, biodiversity is important for the stability and functioning of ecosystems. However, urbanisation and the increasing use of hard surfaces for mobility are reducing biodiversity. We need to strike a balance between mobility on the one hand and the preservation and expansion of green spaces on the other.
In this project, we have therefore developed an audio walk that presents a possible future where biodiversity and mobility coexist in cities. The audio walk guides the listener on a walk through Sollentuna in 2045. The walk highlights the positive aspects of such a future as well as the conflicts that may arise. After the audio walk, listeners are invited to describe what thoughts the story has raised in them by answering a questionnaire. The story is adapted for both children and adults.
An audio walk about the future is an example of a future prototype - a realisation of the future already today. Future prototypes are used in foresight and speculative design to provoke thought and create dialogue. The audio walk created in this project is based on future scenarios developed through an analysis of the world around us and foresight methodology. An important element was to identify signals of possible futures in the present. In addition, the story has taken inspiration from the biodiversity work that the municipality of Sollentuna is already doing, such as the municipality's Plan för urban grönstruktur (in Swedish).
The project is a collaboration between RISE and the municipality of Sollentuna. The audio walk has been created with the help of Umami Produktion and is available via the app Umami Stories. Download the app and start the guide called Plan B. The audio walk is available in Swedish. It can be listened to anywhere but is best experienced in Sollentuna. The walk starts at Aniaraplatsen and ends in Malmparken, an approximately 1.5 kilometre walk in central Sollentuna.
There is a shorter version of the story Plan B (in Swedish) that is also suitable for listening to outside of Sollentuna.
