Informational activities for improved animal welfare
The aim of the project is to compile existing research and knowledge about animal welfare and spread it to operating companies in the livestock sector. The project shall also communicate specific topics of extra relevance in accessible formats. By spreading information, the goal is to contribute to the improvement of animal welfare in Sweden.
There is already extensive research and information concerning farm animals and their welfare, but it’s difficult to find and evaluate since it’s scattered over many sources and might not be sufficiently dated. Therefore, The Swedish Board of Agriculture, Jordbruksverket, has initiated this project to make the knowledge more available to farmers in Sweden.
The project intends to raise the general knowledge level about animal welfare among professional actors within the livestock sector, specifically those working with food producing cows, sheep and in the horse industry.
Through gathering and compiling existing information and conveying it to targeted groups, the project shall contribute to the exchange of knowledge between the academy and the industry. This will be done within the framework of the Rural Development Program 2014-2022 (Landsbygdsprogrammet).
In addition, the project will process and develop parts from the compiled material that concern topics that are identified as highly prioritised. The material on these topics will be adapted into accessible formats such as videos, editorials, and podcasts with the objective to reach a broader target group.
After the project has ended, all produced materials will continuously be available, with the goal to, in a longer perspective, contribute to improved food production and animal welfare in Sweden.
