Sustainable cycle path design

The project "Sustainable bicycle path design outside city centers" aims to meet some of the challenges many municipalities express when it comes to expanding bicycle infrastructure. High requirement, difficulties with land access and an unfavorable distribution of responsibilities give rise to high costs and long lead times.

The project addresses these questions by:

  • Mapping the needs situation: we investigate the municipalities' actual needs in terms of cycling outside of built-up areas and their interest in alternative cycle path constructions that can speed up the expansion of the cycling infrastructure.

  • Policy and regulatory innovation: based on the needs, we examine challenges and opportunities based on current rules, requirements and processes and whether there is a need to develop these.

  • Demonstration of alternative construction variants: we build, test and evaluate a cost- and resource-efficient construction variant for bicycle infrastructure (prefabricated wooden modules) through test beds in Orust and Uddevalla municipalities.
