Contact BjörnSYLFEED is an international project that aims to scale up Arbiom's technology to convert wood residues into a protein-rich feed ingredient that consists of single cell protein to reduce Europe's protein deficit. SYLFEED will demonstrate Arbiom's technology on a larger scale and prepare for industrial upscaling.
Alternative protein sources for animal feed
Today, up to 70% of all proteins used in animal feed are imported into Europe. This figure has been the same for about 40 years, which means that there is a constant protein deficit in Europe. In addition, the fish feed industry faces challenges in terms of sustainable production and supply of protein sources used for fish feed.
There is therefore a need to develop more sustainable animal feed and protein solutions for the fish feed industry in order to reduce Europe's protein deficit and secure the growth of aquaculture.
SYLFEED makes it possible to produce a nutritious and sustainable protein source from wood residues for the fish feed industry. It creates value from under-exploited forest and wood residues by offering a competitive and high-quality protein source to fish feed manufacturers. The project is coordinated by Arbiom, which owns the technology, and brings together a consortium of ten partners from six different countries that cover the entire value chain, from biomass supply to fish feed production.
Optimize production
RISE Processum's role in the project is to optimize the production of Single cell protein and transfer the developed technology to upscaling experiments. The work is carried out mainly in bioreactors in the lab and pilot scale.
