Researcher in Veterinary and Animal Sciences

RISE is now looking for a researcher for the Agriculture and Horticulture I unit to strengthen our team, which consists of extensive expertise in livestock, agriculture, and technology, focusing on sustainable animal production, animal health, infectious disease control and biosafety. Here you will have the opportunity to research an area of great public interest with several development opportunities.

About the role
As a researcher in our team, you will work with applied animal research, primarily in the field of animal health and biosafety to benefit the industry. You will be a key team player in a committed group with high competence, valuing close collaboration within the team and with our partners and customers. You will play a central role in our research and development projects contributing to the sustainable animal production systems of the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental scanning and demands analyses.
  • Write research proposals, plan, implement, and lead research and development projects at national and international levels within animal production.
  • Process and analyse data, compile and interpret results, publish scientifically, and report to research funders and clients.
  • Contribute to relevant distribution of results and communicate research projects both internally and externally to various target groups.
  • Actively participate in networks and meetings, promoting collaboration both internally and externally.
  • Contribute to strategic work within the organization.

The role may include travel, both nationally and internationally. The placement can be in Uppsala, Lund, or Skara.

Who are you?
To succeed in this role, you need to be a good team player and a curious, open, and positive person. You should be solution-oriented, driven by taking on new challenges, able to identify research questions and translate them from ideas to completed projects, and want to contribute to development. It is important that you are thorough, structured, analytical, and creative, with the ability to think critically. Good communication skills and confidence in public speaking are also necessary. You should be able to work both in a team and independently, as well as closely collaborate with both colleagues and farmers.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or equivalent.
  • Research experience and good knowledge of farm animals and production systems within animal production.
  • Competence and experience in the field of animal health, infectious disease control or biosafety issues.
  • Experience in identifying research needs, writing research proposals and scientific publications, and being accustomed to planning, coordinating, and leading projects.
  • Knowledge in statistical processing and the ability to express yourself well in both Swedish and English.
  • Driver's license (B).

Meritorious:

  • Developed an extensive network within the industry and participated in EU projects.
  • Applied for and received research funding from various research funders.
  • Practical work with farm animals.
  • Worked on applied projects in close collaboration with agricultural businesses or participated in projects conducted on commercial farms.
