Circular Economy Outlook Nordics 2024

Business opportunities and reduction of climate emissions are two of the top drivers for circular transition among listed companies in the Nordics. A majority expect their competitors to develop significant circular capabilities. Most of these companies also believe that EUs circular regulations will help them gain a competitive edge.

These are just a few among many insights from Circular Economy Outlook for the Nordics, a groundbreaking study that explores adoption and execution of strategies for material and resource efficiency among publicly listed companies in the region.

Some of the findings in the report:

  • The report introduces a new method for measuring circular activity in companies: the Circular Business Index. The Circular Business Index for Nordic public companies is 21%.
  • 79% of the companies believe that their competitors will develop significant circular capabilities within the coming years.
  • Only a small fraction of companies indicate that they themselves present circular requirements to suppliers in all or most purchases. Worse, one-fifth of companies only set circular requirements in their purchases when customers or authorities demand it.
