Corrosion of buried structures

Much of society's vital infrastructure is in the ground and is therefore exposed to soil corrosivity. These structures include water and sewage systems, natural-gas pipelines, cisterns for oil and fuel, telecommunication cables, pylon foundations for power transmission towers, culverts, etc. Here, corrosion can have disastrous consequences.

Corrosion in soils is mainly dependent on moisture content, oxygen availability, chemical composition/mineral content, redox potential, pH, resistivity and microbial activity. Soil composition varies both vertically and horizontally and is heavily influenced by excavation and seasonal variations.

RISE has more than 40 years of experience in assessing corrosion risks, lifecycles and corrosion preventative measures in soil.

What we can offer

We can assist with corrosion studies, computation, and theoretical and practical recommendations in the application of corrosion protection of structures.
