Healthcare purchaser network

As part of Medtech4Health’s National Development Project for Implementation, and its sub-activity on Innovation Procurement, a working group comprising representatives from regions, research institutes, medtech companies, and innovation firms has jointly developed tools aimed at removing barriers and better facilitating innovation procurement.

To increase the number of implemented medical technology innovations—and thereby better address the often complex needs within healthcare and social care—there is a need for improved procurement processes, enhanced purchaser competence, and better procurement support for companies.

A successful innovation procurement requires a deep understanding by the purchaser—and ideally also the supplier—of the operational needs, both current and future.

The network operates bottom-up, with member organizations taking turns hosting meetings, which can be held either in person or virtually, with RISE providing administrative support when needed. The program varies based on the needs and experiences shared within the network. The ambition is to meet quarterly. By participating, you will have the opportunity to learn from other purchasers how to:

  • Define the scope and describe the challenge accurately by identifying the needs and root causes you aim to address using impact measurement and results-based management.
  • Engage in in-depth professional dialogues with suppliers and use technology scanning to identify innovative solutions.
  • Gain insight into how to formulate requirements that address clinical, technical, operational, and patient-specific needs, as well as safety standards.
  • Understand clauses and review contracts to ensure deliveries genuinely meet regional requirements.
  • Exchange experiences on how purchasers can help drive the market forward and create better opportunities for long-term development in healthcare.

The project group has compiled a set of methods and knowledge on innovation procurement for purchasers at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels. The material also includes a supplier guide offering support on how to co-develop medical technology solutions with a purchaser and navigate the procurement process to enable the purchase of innovation.
