Mobile feeding system for individual feeding of sows in group housing
The aim of the project is to develop a mobile feeding system that can be used both indoors and on pastures where feed can be regulated for each sow individually.
The project's objective was to develop a mobile feeding system for individual feeding of sows in groups. The challenges the project aimed to address included ensuring that the system could be used both indoors in existing pig housing, and outdoors on pasture at a reasonable cost. The system would feature individual feeding and improve profitability by meeting the nutritional needs of individual sows. This will reduce the risk for silent heats during lactation, feed wastes and promote good health in sows and piglets.
The system also enables sows to be kept on larger farmland areas rather than just near the barn, improving manure distribution and reducing nutrient leakage.
