Sustainable and Integrated Urban Transport Systems - HITS 2

The vision of the HITS project was to understand and create conditions for a sustainable transport system in the city. A system solutions with a high degree of freight consolidation (ie sized and well-stocked vehicles) as far as possible into city centers to reduce congestion, vehicle kilometers and energy use was developed and tested

Expected effects and results

Efficient distribution of goods in cities with Off-peak. Consolidation in an urban environment with sustainable transport services. Visualization of concepts around the future urban transport system. Research in System effects and design of sustainable systems. Project method development for complex systems. Understanding of business challenges and how policy can contribute in a sustainable way. Furthermore, the project is expected to generate indirect results that positively affect Swedish innovation power.

RISE's role in the project was to assist as a research partner and works mainly in the Research Work Package led by KTH (AP5) and in the work package around aggregating (AP3) led by CLOSER. RISE assists with expert knowledge in logistics and transport and has carried out data collection, analysis and knowledge sharing from previous related projects.

The data collection was taken place primarily in the NOHA area in Stockholm's inner city in close collaboration with property owners, logistics operators in the area and other parties involved in the project. The work with method development and analyse of data collection and tool development takes place in close cooperation with IVL and other parties in the research part of the project.

The result of RISE's work is improved knowledge of the current situation and potential for consolidation from recievers initiative and input into the design of a sustainable service for the entire area, which is also scalable to other parts of the city and to other cities. RISE uses both quantitative and qualitative methods in this project. Project repoer RISE 2024:109 with the results are published in DIVA.
