Erik is an R&D Engineer in the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Engineering and runs research and development projects in the biogas and biorefinery field. His work includes both pilot plant testing and evaluation of commercial biogas production plants with digestion of agricultural crop residues, manure, food waste and sewage sludge as well as projects in the biorefinery sector for the production of nutrients and proteins. The focus is on technical issues such as substrate pre-treatment, the anaerobic digestion process, energy and mass balances, and post-treatment and nutrient recovery from digestate. Another growing focus is the treatment of raw biogas for liquefaction of methane (LBG) and carbon dioxide (bio-LCO2) within the CCS/CCU thematic block.
