Fredrik Trella works as a researcher and developer in interaction design at the department Prototyping Societies, in the unit Technologies for Interaction. As a researcher and developer he has been active in a number of projects that explores how interaction design can be used to understand and improve the interplay between humans and technology, within e.g: creating custom consistency food for elderly using 3D-printers ("Framtidens Mål"/Future Meals), exploring the integration of interactive elements in architecture ("Arkiteknotiska Konvertibler"/Architectural convertibles) and method and technology development for capturing and mediating tacit knowledge ("Tacit Knowhow"). Fredrik has a great personal incentive to explore how modern technologies can be used to create new educational tools for museums, something that was done in the project “Anyone can Innovate!”, where he was acting project manager and driving force in the project. The project resulted in the development of an interactive and immersive concept that is built around active participation and inspired by the game design from the “escape room”-concept, in the form of a museum-based VR experience for three participants. The installation was integrated as part of an exhibition at Borås Museum. The project also generated a number of general insights about VR as a tool for active participation in groups in an exhibition at a museum, and what challenges arise from this.
He has a M.Sc. in Engineering Physics and has previous experience working as Hardware Engineer, Development Engineer and Project Manager in various industries before starting his position at RISE Prototyping Societies. This is something that, together with his great personal interests in art, history and linguistics, goes well with his ideals in science. He believes in having a holistic view of science and therefore believes that the best researcher is someone who is skilled in multiple disciplines and has the ability to combine knowledge and tools from multiple fields to reach a greater understanding, a higher level of innovation and solve the greatest challenges.
