Has worked with research as project manager and implementer for more than 30 years in the fields of biological decomposition of organic material for biogas production and reduction of pollution by chemical pesticides through biobeds and bioremediation of contaminated soils. Performs laboratory studies, pilot studies, feasibility studies and investigative assignments.
At present, works as researcher responsible for the characterization of biogas substrates, determination of biochemical methane potential and optimization of biogas processes at laboratory scale in continuous reactors (CSTR, UASB, plug-flow, etc) at the RISE Biogas Laboratory. During the last years Castillo has worked in the development and optimization of laboratory processes for biological sulphate reduction in industrial process waters. Work is performed in close collaboration with several universities and companies.
